do you need to jump through that hoop?...[SIE💡]

Published 12 months ago • 3 min read

I spoke at a local event last Wednesday about my life story.

It was an interview format, and my interviewer guided me through a bit about my childhood, my first career as a Special Agent, then creating a job as the social media manager with Megadeth, and my entrepreneurial journey.

One of the threads was how as an adult I constantly found myself questioning the status quo. Do I actually need to jump through this hoop?

Do I need to stay in a job with great benefits and gravitas that is taking years off my life?

Do I need to work more for less pay because I'm working for a cool band?

Do I need to follow the latest "xyz entrepreneur" playbook?

And now, I'm doing it again.

Being completely out of my business for a month let me dump the metaphorical purse on the table of what I do in my business.

I'm asking myself if I need to be doing a lot of things that are taken for granted as "must do" in the online entrepreneur world because "that's what everyone does".

What I do know, is a lot of things that used to be fun and light me up, now feel like draining intern tasks with little to no reward.

So this week, I encourage you to step outside your day-to-day and question your assumptions about what you do in your work.

Have a good week my friends. 😘

TIPS TO WORK BETTER

1. Theme Day Planning isn't just about grouping your weekly tasks. There are a few Theme Days I put in my schedule every month that help me stay on track and refreshed as a CEO (including my favorite - a Hooky Day). Read more here.

2. If creating good Call To Action buttons is not your forte - or you just want some fresh ideas — check out this post by Amanda Natividad for 20 ideas for effective CTA buttons. Read more.

3. GA4 (Google Analytics) will be the only option next month if you want to use the free Google tools to track and understand your website traffic. You'll want to bookmark and subscribe to the Data Driven YouTube channel for bite-sized tutorials as you run into issues figuring out what to find where in the new setup. Watch here.

TIPS TO LIVE WELL

1. This is your reminder that you don't have to do new routines and systems exactly the way prescribed by "the experts" or the latest bestselling author. If you've been wanting to try journaling, but have heard that "morning pages" concept which says you have to write 3 pages...you can let that go. You can simply journal one sentance a day and still reap the benefits. (I usual write a paragraph or so) Read more here.

2. Sometimes when you're in a funk, spreading positivity to others is the best way to turn your day (or feelings) around. This articles shares 10 Simple Ways to Spread the Optimism and Positive Energy Starting Today. Read more.

3. Feeling out of control with the circumstances around you can be so hard. As a type A problem-solver, learning to let go what's not in my control has been a continuous and evolving life lesson. If you know what I mean, here's a handy graphic as a reminder. Check it out.

Catch you next time Reader, - love ya,

Cara

PS - I know I said I'd write a big blog about our 28-day family roadtrip...but I've decided not to. My time is at such a premium and encompassing the trip in a written blog would take time I don't have. While many online entrepreneurs would use the story as "content marketing" and for Amazon affiliates income, I've decided to keep that experience just for my family.

Several weeks ago I had to opportunity to connect with a fellow Sunday newsletter writer - Irena Spegar of The Boonly. I don’t recall exactly how I found her, but when I subscribed to The Boonly and got my first issue in my Inbox, I knew we were kindred spirits. Sundays for me are about reflecting, intentional and slow living, basking in nourishing routines, and resetting my mind and body for the week ahead. And when I started reading Irena’s newsletter, I knew she felt the same. The Boonly...

I realized last week that I missed sending Mother's Day wishes in last week's SIE and I didn't say a word about turning 43 last Wednesday. Being a mother is the entire reason I've been able to hone my productivity skills, get more done in less time, and have an entirely different perspective on success and priorities. But the last several years, online marketing and social media has started tip-toeing around Mother's Day in fear of not recognizing or just dismissing others' feelings. I get...

Hello hello and I'm back! After a month-long family sabbatical, I can finally tell you all what I was away doing. My hubby retired March 31st after 20 years in law enforcement (16 of which he spent doing child exploitation investigations). To say he needed to reset and regroup would be an understatement. On Saturday April 1st, at 5AM, our family of 4 drove away to embark on a 28-day roadtrip around the Western United States. Due to safety and security, I chose not to publicly announce where...
