no tip toeing for me...[SIE💡]

Published 11 months ago • 3 min read

I realized last week that I missed sending Mother's Day wishes in last week's SIE and I didn't say a word about turning 43 last Wednesday.

Being a mother is the entire reason I've been able to hone my productivity skills, get more done in less time, and have an entirely different perspective on success and priorities.

But the last several years, online marketing and social media has started tip-toeing around Mother's Day in fear of not recognizing or just dismissing others' feelings.

I get that Motherhood is such a multi-layered minefield for so many women (myself included). And as such, I choose to not engage with the tip-toeing or having to footnote every statement to include every possible person's feelings.

Because, yes, I understand different perspectives and experiences.

I also know I'm not responsible for others' feelings.

It's one of the many choices I've made in my business to keep some parts of my life private, and some (most) of my opinions to myself.

And if I'm coming across as sassy this week, it might be because with every trip around the sun, I get more unapologetically me.

So cheers my fellow mamas and happy birthday to me. 🥂

Have a good week my friends. 😘

TIPS TO WORK BETTER

1. Failure is inevitable on the road to success - even essential. If you work in bursts of productivity (I sure do), and feel guilty for taking breaks, don't. It might be just the thing to help with the next breakthrough. Take a hint from Einstein and Mozart — unplug and make peace with some degree of failure. Read More.

2. Did you hear Pinterest is partnering with Amazon ads? The deal is aimed at bringing more brands and relevant products to its platform, and is the e-commerce giant Pinterest’s first partner on third-party ads. Read More.

3. Did I say it, or did I say it? I said WAIT on Idea Pins on Pinterest and don't change your entire strategy to revolve around it. Sure as sh*t...Idea Pins are done. Read more. (if all the Pinterest updates make your head spin, Laura will take care of you)

TIPS TO LIVE WELL

1. Having moved to a new city where we didn't know a soul twice now - I know how hard it is to make friends as adults. It can feel so time consuming and disappointing. But we keep investing time, knowing that eventually we'll find our people. How to make friends as an adult - Read More.

2. What is the quality of the time you're spending with others? Or they're spending with you? If I'm spending hours with someone, but we're both on our phones or only listening to respond, is it really "quality time"? Food for thought - Watch here.

3. As any business owner with an email list knows - sometimes rejection stings. How long did it take you to go from seeing "unsubscribes" as hurtful to a good thing? Here's a fun list of 20 Little Things to Remember When Rejection Hurts - Read More.

Catch you next time Reader, - love ya,

Several weeks ago I had to opportunity to connect with a fellow Sunday newsletter writer - Irena Spegar of The Boonly. I don’t recall exactly how I found her, but when I subscribed to The Boonly and got my first issue in my Inbox, I knew we were kindred spirits. Sundays for me are about reflecting, intentional and slow living, basking in nourishing routines, and resetting my mind and body for the week ahead. And when I started reading Irena’s newsletter, I knew she felt the same. The Boonly...

I spoke at a local event last Wednesday about my life story. It was an interview format, and my interviewer guided me through a bit about my childhood, my first career as a Special Agent, then creating a job as the social media manager with Megadeth, and my entrepreneurial journey. One of the threads was how as an adult I constantly found myself questioning the status quo. Do I actually need to jump through this hoop? Do I need to stay in a job with great benefits and gravitas that is taking...

Hello hello and I'm back! After a month-long family sabbatical, I can finally tell you all what I was away doing. My hubby retired March 31st after 20 years in law enforcement (16 of which he spent doing child exploitation investigations). To say he needed to reset and regroup would be an understatement. On Saturday April 1st, at 5AM, our family of 4 drove away to embark on a 28-day roadtrip around the Western United States. Due to safety and security, I chose not to publicly announce where...
